West Virginia assistant football coach Noel Devine has been arrested on a felony strangulation charge, according to jail records. Mr Devine, 38, was arrested on Sunday by Morgantown police and booked into the North Central Regional Jail.
A not guilty plea was entered, and he was ordered held on $40,000 bail. Court records did not provide further details regarding the circumstances of the arrest.
West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez announced on Sunday night that Mr Devine had been placed on indefinite leave from the team following his arrest. Mr Rodriguez stated that any future decision on Mr Devine's status would be determined after more information becomes available.
Mr Devine is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on September 23.
