Williams Sisters Set for Doubles Return at Cincinnati Open

Serena and Venus Williams will reunite on court for doubles at the Cincinnati Open, marking their first partnership in four years.

  • Serena and Venus Williams have received a wildcard for the Cincinnati Open doubles.
  • This will be their first doubles appearance together since the 2022 US Open.
  • The sisters withdrew from Wimbledon doubles last month due to Serena's knee injury.

Tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams are poised to rekindle their formidable doubles partnership, having been granted a wildcard entry to the Cincinnati Open. This upcoming tournament will be their first time competing together in four years.

The sisters, who boast 14 major doubles titles and three Olympic gold medals, last played as a team at the 2022 US Open. Their appearance in Cincinnati will also mark their debut as a doubles pair at this specific WTA 1000 event.

Their planned reunion at Wimbledon last month was cut short when Serena, 44, sustained a knee injury during her first-round singles match, leading to their withdrawal from the doubles draw. Venus, 46, has also received a singles wildcard for the Cincinnati Open, where she previously reached the semifinals in 2012 and quarterfinals in 2019.

The Cincinnati Open is scheduled to run from August 11 to 23. This event could serve as a crucial stepping stone for Serena as she potentially eyes a return to the US Open, which begins its main draw on August 30.
