Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, who is accused of shooting at Rihanna's Los Angeles home, has been deemed mentally fit to stand trial. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Maria Cavalluzzi made the determination yesterday, September 29, following a competency evaluation that had delayed the case for over four months, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Ms Ortiz, based in Florida, is accused of firing a semiautomatic rifle at the singer's mansion at 13:15 local time on March 8. Rihanna and her partner A$AP Rocky were reportedly at home at the time, but nobody was injured.
Ms Ortiz has pleaded not guilty to charges including attempted murder, 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and three counts of shooting at an inhabited vehicle or dwelling. The shooting charges relate to Rihanna's house, her trailer, and a neighbour's property. The assault charges cover Rihanna, her family, two staff members, and two people in the neighbouring house.
Case documents containing Ms Ortiz's psychiatric evaluations were reportedly marked as confidential and sealed. If convicted, she faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.
