A woman has been charged in Western Australia after allegedly contaminating a co-worker's curry lunch with snail pellets, according to police. The 43-year-old woman is accused of adding snail pellets, which contain the poisonous substance metaldehyde, to the curry.
Western Australian police stated that a 58-year-old woman brought the curry to her workplace in Perth's southern suburbs in February to share with colleagues. The curry was initially consumed without issue during a morning tea break.
A police spokesperson said that after the meal, the accused allegedly accessed a chemical storage shed before entering the staff lunch room where the food was kept. The alleged victim later spotted bright green granules in her curry and, after tasting a small amount, reportedly experienced numbness to her tongue.
Detectives arrested the 43-year-old woman last week. She has been charged with one count of unlawful act or omission with intent to harm (endangering the life, health or safety of any person) and is scheduled to appear before Armadale magistrates court on 5 November.
