Woman creates art from fly-tipped waste to prompt council action

A Coventry woman created an art display from fly-tipped rubbish, including urine-filled bottles, to highlight the issue after reporting it multiple times.

  • Mary Courtney created art from fly-tipped waste in an alleyway between Broomfield Road and Kensington Road.
  • The rubbish, which included urine-filled bottles, was cleared by city enforcement officers after she shared images of her art online.
  • Ms Courtney reported the fly-tipping to the council and local representatives before creating the display.

A woman in Coventry resorted to creating an art installation from fly-tipped rubbish near her home, which included "empty bottles filled to the brim with urine", to draw attention to the problem.

Mary Courtney said the waste had accumulated in an alleyway linking Broomfield Road and Kensington Road, despite her repeated reports to the council and local representatives.

After sharing photographs of her art display online, city enforcement officers reportedly cleared the waste the following day. Ms Courtney said local councillor Patricia Hetherton stated the council would consider a prevention plan.

Ms Courtney previously used art to highlight a fly-tipping issue on Albany Road, which was also subsequently removed.
