A woman accused of owning an XL bully dog that bit her partner's father, leading to his death from blood loss, has told a court the animal was not "the type of dog to savage anyone". Chanel Fong, 33, faces charges of owning a dog dangerously out of control, and an alternative charge of being in charge of the dog, Cookie, at the time of the alleged attack.
The court heard that Keven Jones, 62, from Chester, died from severe blood loss after sustaining a leg bite. Mr Jones, who had been in poor health and was taking blood thinning medication, had been staying at Ms Fong's Wrexham home in May 2022.
During her evidence, Ms Fong stated that only one of the six dogs at the property, a miniature Pinscher named King, was hers. She told the court that the other dogs, including Cookie, belonged to her partner, Joshua Jones, who is the victim's son and was not present during the incident. Ms Fong also said her partner organised all breeding and registration for these dogs.
