A woman has received a suspended prison sentence after an XL bully dog attacked and killed her cousin. Kelcie Reed, 24, of Bristol, previously admitted being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, causing the death of Morgan Dorsett.

The 19-year-old, from Shrewsbury, died from neck injuries in February 2025 following an attack at Reed's flat in south Bristol. A post-mortem examination determined Morgan died from bites to her neck and face.

At Bristol Crown Court, Judge Anna Richardson sentenced Reed to 18 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months. Reed will also be required to undergo mental health treatment. The dog, named Prince, was sedated at the scene and later humanely destroyed, according to police.
