Emily Hardaker, 34, from Brislington, Bristol, underwent a preventative double mastectomy two years ago. This decision followed her 2017 diagnosis of a BRCA2 gene mutation, which significantly increased her risk of developing breast cancer.
The surgery has reduced her risk of breast cancer from an estimated 80-90% to 8%. Hardaker's mother died from breast cancer when Hardaker was 14 years old.
Hardaker also had breast reconstruction surgery at the same time. She now helps other women through the Women's Empowerment Movement, a support network focused on fitness and healthy living.
