Wrexham are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign goalkeeper Anthony Patterson from Sunderland. The 26-year-old is expected to have a medical with the Championship side.
Red Dragons manager Phil Parkinson, who previously managed Sunderland, has been keen to strengthen his goalkeeping options. Patterson could potentially be available for Wrexham's Championship opener against Cardiff City on 17 August.
This potential transfer could pave the way for Nigeria international Arthur Okonkwo, who is in the final year of his contract, to depart the Racecourse Ground. Wales international Danny Ward is also in the final year of his contract with Wrexham.
Patterson, a product of Sunderland's academy, made 169 competitive appearances for the Black Cats. He featured 45 times in the Championship during the 2024-25 season, helping Sunderland achieve promotion to the Premier League.
After falling behind Robin Roefs in the pecking order last season, Patterson spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Millwall, making 16 appearances across all competitions.
Wrexham have already signed full-back Danny Imray and midfielder Ben Whiteman this summer. Manager Phil Parkinson recently stated that there was still work to be done on the squad, aiming to make it strong for the competitive Championship division.
