Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson was left bewildered following his side's 2-1 loss to Birmingham City at the Racecourse Ground. Defensive errors proved costly, with Phil Neumann scoring two headers for the visitors.
Parkinson described the goals as "two of the softest goals" conceded during his tenure, which began in 2021. Captain Dom Hyam echoed this sentiment, stating, "We were quite easy to score against tonight, frankly, and they didn't really have to work for their goals, which is unlike us - which is what hurts."
The defeat extends Wrexham's winless streak to four matches across all competitions this season, during which they have also failed to keep a clean sheet. Last season, Wrexham's defensive record saw them concede 65 league goals, with only five Championship teams conceding more. They also conceded two or more goals in 22 of their 46 league games.
Hyam suggested the team may need to cultivate a "horrible" streak to improve their defensive solidity. Parkinson also hinted that transfer talk might have affected some players' performance against Birmingham, particularly in the first half.
