Great Britain's Angharad Evans has claimed her first European Championship gold medal, winning the 100m breaststroke final in Paris. The 23-year-old finished first with a championship record time of one minute and 4.87 seconds. This performance also marked a lifetime best and a new British record for Evans.
Evans had previously broken the championship record in the semi-final. She secured gold ahead of Ireland's Mona McSharry, who took second place, and Italy's Benedetta Pilato, who earned bronze.
Elsewhere, Great Britain's Amalie Smith, 16, won a silver medal in the 400m individual medley final. She finished 0.7 seconds behind Ireland's Ellen Walshe. Smith had previously won gold in the 4x200m freestyle relay on Monday and was part of the 4x100m freestyle relay team that finished fifth.
Filip Nowacki, 18, was the fastest qualifier in the semi-final of the 200m breaststroke at the European Aquatics Championships. His time of 2:08.60 allowed him to progress to the final, alongside GB team-mate Greg Butler, 25.
Italian teenager Sara Curtis, 19, broke the women's 50m backstroke world record in her semi-final with a time of 26.63 seconds. This bettered the previous world record, set by Australia's Kaylee McKeown three years ago, by 0.23 seconds.
