  • His current deal has nine months left to run.
  • Arteta is expected to become one of the best-paid managers in world football.

Premier League champions Arsenal are reportedly nearing the finalisation of a new contract for manager Mikel Arteta. Discussions regarding the protracted deal have recently progressed, with confidence from those involved that the Spaniard will renew.

Arteta had previously stated his desire to remain at the club, saying, "Everybody feels comfortable that the timing of the contract is not going to be an issue because my will certainly is to be here and I'm very happy here." Arsenal's chief executive Richard Garlick also indicated it was a "matter of time" before a new long-term deal was confirmed.

Upon signing, Arteta is expected to become one of the best-paid managers globally, with Arsenal committed to significantly improving his current deal, which is worth £10m a season plus an extra £5m for Champions League qualification.

Arteta, who was appointed in December 2019, has led Arsenal to a Premier League title and is already the longest-serving manager in English football. His current contract has just nine months remaining.

Why this matters: Arteta has transformed Arsenal, leading them to a Premier League title and making them favourites to retain their domestic crown and win their first-ever Champions League this season.
