Arsenal are in a race against time to secure the signing of Julián Alvarez from Atlético Madrid. This pursuit comes as the club has agreed to sell Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, and Fábio Vieira in deals collectively valued at more than £70m.
Alvarez, a former Manchester City forward, reportedly has his sights set on Barcelona, despite Atlético's firm stance against selling him to their La Liga rivals. Mikel Arteta is understood to have spoken with Alvarez last week, but was reportedly informed of the Argentina international's preference for Barcelona.
Gabriel Jesus is poised to join Barcelona in an £8.6m deal, having entered the final year of his contract. Meanwhile, Gabriel Martinelli's expected departure to Al-Hilal for a club record £56m sale would create a squad space. Martinelli, who scored six Champions League goals last season, is due to have a medical on Monday. Fábio Vieira is also set to join Hamburg for £8.6m.
Atlético Madrid, who signed Alvarez from City in 2024, are understood to be determined to keep him. Arsenal remain hopeful that the 26-year-old could still change his mind, while also monitoring other attacking options.
