A fire at Walkmill Meadows Nature Reserve in Market Drayton, Shropshire, on Monday is believed to have been started deliberately, a fire service spokesperson said. Fire crews were called to the blaze off Salisbury Hill View at 17:50 BST.
Approximately 20 sq m of the reserve was affected, with long grass, undergrowth, and bracken on fire. Firefighters managed to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby trees and deeper into the reserve, which the fire service stated would have resulted in a large-scale wildfire.
The fire service confirmed there were no injuries. West Mercia Police have urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact them.
