Firefighters from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service used rope rescue techniques, including an abseiling firefighter, to save a kitten trapped between two buildings in Chatteris.
The 15-week-old black and white kitten, named Purdy, escaped from a first-floor window of a Park Street home at around 02:00 BST on Monday. Owners Kate Feltwell and her husband attempted to coax the kitten out for several hours using tied-together dust sheets and quilt covers, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Purdy had fallen approximately 8ft (2.4m) into a narrow gap between the buildings, which was reportedly only about 6in (15cm) wide in some places. Crews from Chatteris and Huntingdon arrived shortly before 09:00 and spent about three hours on the rescue operation. A firefighter abseiled from the roof of an adjacent building to reach Purdy, who was then reunited with her owners.
