Erin Piacenti, a 32-year-old corporate vice-president at Bank of America, was killed in a stabbing incident in New York City's Times Square on Monday. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) confirmed her identity.
The incident, which occurred near West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue, appeared to be random and unprovoked, according to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch. An unnamed 68-year-old man also suffered stab wounds in the attack and is in stable condition.
Police found Pamela Cisneros, 49, at the scene, brandishing two large knives. Officers used a stun gun, but when Cisneros advanced towards them, she was shot and later pronounced dead. Commissioner Tisch stated that Cisneros had a documented mental health history.
Bank of America confirmed the loss of their staff member, with Matthew Koder, president of global corporate and investment banking, describing Piacenti as a "cherished teammate and friend" in an internal memo. The bank's security teams are assisting the police investigation.
