Manchester United forward Benjamin Sesko has pledged full commitment to his rehabilitation after being sidelined by a recurring shin problem. The 23-year-old missed Sunday's 1-1 draw at Fulham and international duty with Slovenia due to the injury.
Sesko, who joined Old Trafford from RB Leipzig last August for 76.5 million euros (£66.3m) plus potential add-ons, scored 12 goals in his debut campaign before it was cut short by a shin injury in May. This previous injury caused him to miss all of United’s pre-season friendlies. He had featured in the opening six fixtures of the new season, scoring twice, before the recurrence of shin pain.
The striker posted on Instagram, stating his regret at missing national team matches and his dedication to recovery. Slovenia is set to play Scotland twice, North Macedonia, and Switzerland during the current international window. Manchester United will return to competitive action on October 10 against Tottenham.
Manager Michael Carrick addressed the situation after the Fulham game, stating that the club is assessing Sesko and that he was not ready for Sunday's match. Carrick also indicated that the club did not sign another striker for cover over the summer, despite the circumstances. Sesko is one of four United players, alongside Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford, and Karl Darlow, who have withdrawn from international duty for assessment and individual recovery plans.
