Heavyweight boxer Moses Itauma was taken to hospital after his challenge for the vacant IBF world title concluded in a ninth-round stoppage by Filip Hrgovic at The O2. Itauma was carried from the ring on a stretcher following medical treatment.
The 21-year-old faced the toughest test of his 15-fight career against the experienced Hrgovic. While Itauma commanded the early rounds, he reportedly tired, and the eighth and ninth rounds swung in Hrgovic’s favour.
Referee Howard Foster stopped the fight as Itauma was taking a barrage of shots, with only the ropes supporting him. His trainer, Ben Davison, also threw in the towel, but Foster had already intervened.
