Brian Fallon, the distinctive voice behind acclaimed rock band The Gaslight Anthem, has announced his first solo album in over five years, titled 'Not Bad For New Jersey'. The record, which is scheduled for release on September 10, boasts a notable list of collaborators from across the music spectrum, including Brandon Flowers, the frontman of The Killers, and Phil Collen, the guitarist for legendary British rock band Def Leppard. Avant-garde guitarist Marc Ribot and Grammy-winning country artist Lori McKenna also feature on the 11-track album.
The album, released on Fallon's own Lesser Known Records, is described as a fusion of driving rock and infectious pop. It was predominantly recorded live during spontaneous sessions with producer and long-time collaborator Butch Walker, alongside drummer Eric Slick. Fallon has previously shared two singles from the album, 'Better Before' and the title track, with a new single, 'Pearls', dropping on Friday, June 12. 'Pearls' is described as a poignant yet triumphant track, addressing individuals born into privileged circumstances, a theme Fallon explores with nuance rather than resentment.
Fallon expressed a deep sense of creative fulfilment during the album's creation, drawing inspiration from classic tracks like Bryan Adams' 'Run to You' and The Police's 'Every Breath You Take'. He noted that the process was filled with a "childlike joy," allowing him to fully embrace the passion and unique character of each song. The album's themes often reflect on his roots and personal journey, with the title track, 'Not Bad for New Jersey', serving as a reflection on overcoming challenges and appreciating his origins.
The collaboration with Brandon Flowers is particularly interesting for UK audiences, given The Killers' significant following. Fallon has previously spoken of his friendship with Flowers, revealing they often discuss their shared admiration for Depeche Mode. This connection was highlighted in 2017 when The Killers covered The Gaslight Anthem's 'American Slang', a moment Fallon recalled fondly. The inclusion of Phil Collen also adds a distinct British rock flavour to the album, appealing to fans of Def Leppard.
'Not Bad For New Jersey' will be available on major streaming platforms in the UK from September 10, with physical formats following on September 11. While there are currently no UK tour dates announced, Fallon and his band, The Painkillers, will be undertaking a series of live shows in the United States throughout June and September, including an appearance at Riot Fest 2026 in Chicago.
