British interest in the singles at the US Open has concluded following Fran Jones's defeat in the second round. Jones, a 25-year-old qualifier from Bradford, was beaten in straight sets by American 14th seed Iva Jovic, with a final score of 6-4 6-4.
Jones's exit on Stadium 17 meant she was the last British player remaining after Harriet Dart's earlier loss to Czech 25th seed Marie Bouzkova. Dart, 30, was defeated 6-2 6-2 in an hour and 17 minutes, reportedly battling the New York heat and feeling unwell.
All nine British players who qualified for the main draw were eliminated before reaching the third round. This included British number one Katie Boulter, who lost to Karolina Muchova, and men's players Jacob Fearnley and Toby Samuel, who exited in the second round.
