Cadillac have announced Marcin Budkowski as their new team principal, taking over from founding principal Graeme Lowdon. Lowdon, 61, had been instrumental in setting up the American team for its Formula 1 debut this year.
Cadillac chief executive officer Dan Towriss confirmed the decision to remove Lowdon was his, citing the future direction of the team. He clarified that the change was not directly linked to the repeated reliability issues, particularly with overheating brakes, that have affected Cadillac in recent races.
Towriss stated that while a future transition had been discussed, the timing came sooner than anticipated. Budkowski, 49, brings extensive F1 experience, having previously served as executive director at Renault's F1 team (Renault and Alpine) from 2017-22 and running the technical department of the FIA from 2014-17.
Budkowski expressed that this is a significant opportunity for the team, focused on maximising car development within the cost cap and building an elite organisation. Cadillac, who are yet to score a point in their first 11 races, operates from multiple locations including the UK and the US, with a new headquarters planned for Fishers, Indiana.
