Colwill believes Cardiff City can grow under Barry-Murphy this season

Rubin Colwill states Cardiff City has significant potential for improvement under manager Brian Barry-Murphy, following their 1-1 draw against Wrexham.

  • Rubin Colwill scored a late free-kick to secure a 1-1 draw for Cardiff City against Wrexham.
  • Cardiff City gained automatic promotion from League One in the 2025-26 season.
  • Colwill missed 15 league games last season due to an ankle injury but contributed eight goals and six assists in 31 appearances.

Cardiff City midfielder Rubin Colwill believes the club has considerable room for growth under manager Brian Barry-Murphy in the current season. His comments follow Cardiff's 1-1 draw with Wrexham in their Championship campaign opener on Monday night, where Colwill scored a last-minute free-kick.

Barry-Murphy had previously expressed a desire for Cardiff to defy those who predicted their relegation back to League One. Colwill, a Wales international, emphasised the need for the team to build upon the foundations established during their successful 2025-26 campaign, which saw them achieve automatic promotion from League One.

Colwill stated that the team's focus is on improving their existing approach rather than making significant changes for their return to the second tier. He added, "I think it's more about doing the same stuff but better." He also mentioned that he has taken all necessary steps to be fit for the season, despite a previous ankle injury that caused him to miss 15 league games last season.
