Andoni Iraola has been appointed as Liverpool's new head coach, taking the reins after Arne Slot's departure. Iraola, previously at Bournemouth, was reportedly courted by several clubs before joining Liverpool.
The club has also seen a major shake-up off the field, with a consortium including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, and Amit Bhatia acquiring a 30% stake in Liverpool for £1.65bn. This deal has led to Bhatia becoming vice-chairman on an expanded board.
Liverpool finished 5th in the Premier League last season and are predicted by Guardian writers to secure a 4th-place finish in the upcoming 2026-27 season. Iraola faces the challenge of replacing Mohamed Salah, who has departed, and integrating new signing Jérémy Jacquet, a central defender acquired from Rennes for up to £60m.
Despite questions over wide threat and defensive resources, Iraola will aim to bring consistency to the team, following an erratic 2025-26 campaign that saw both long winning and losing streaks. Young talents like Trey Nyoni are also pushing for more opportunities under the new coach.
