The Premier League has confirmed significant changes to VAR and referee transparency for the new season, beginning with the publication of weekly reports from its independent Key Match Incidents (KMI) Panel. This move, announced on Tuesday, aims to increase transparency around refereeing decisions.
The KMI Panel, established in the 2022-23 season, reviews and votes on all major refereeing judgments. While its verdicts were previously shared with clubs and referees, complete findings will now be made public to ensure "full transparency around the evaluations of the decisions made by match officials."
Further enhancements include the publication of direct quotes between pitch officials and the VAR during major incidents on the Premier League Match Centre social media account. Additionally, fans will gain access to in-game audio from referee body cameras during approximately 1-2 selected matches per round, though this will not include live VAR audio due to IFAB restrictions.
