The southern German hamlet of Deidesheim, population 900, has become home to Germany's newest three-Michelin-star restaurant, taking the country's total to 12. The restaurant, L.A. Jordan, is named for founder Ludwig Andreas Jordan.
Managing director Ole Leidner described the team's reaction to the announcement. "It was like we won the food version of the Soccer World Cup, the Culinary World Cup," he said. "There was screaming; I may have cried."
Chef Daniel Schimkowitsch earned L.A. Jordan's first Michelin star the year it opened in 2014 and the second nine years later. He said he was "speechless, happy, full of respect, humility and gratitude to my entire team, the Michelin Guide, our guests and my owner!"
Leidner said the phone started ringing immediately and the waiting list exploded overnight, including calls from the UK and New York. The restaurant is now booked until September.
Deidesheim sits in the Rheinpfalz region, about an hour and 15 minutes by Autobahn from Frankfurt. The town has long drawn visitors for its wineries and events, including Goat Day and an August Wine Festival.
