Northern Territory police have charged federal Labor MP Luke Gosling with one count of breaching bail conditions. This charge comes less than a month after his arrest over the alleged assault of the Territory’s administrator, David Connolly.
Mr Gosling was previously charged with two counts of assault following an alleged incident at a cultural festival in Darwin on 18 July. He appeared before the Darwin local court on 31 July and was released with several bail conditions.
Police released a statement on Tuesday afternoon, alleging Mr Gosling breached one of these bail conditions on 14 August. He has been served with a summons to appear in Darwin Local Court on 30 September 2026.
Mr Gosling's bail conditions included staying at least 50 metres from the administrator’s house. His office was also required to provide Mr Connolly’s office 48 hours’ notice for any event where both individuals would be present. If at the same event, Mr Gosling was required to remain at least 15 metres from Mr Connolly.
Mr Gosling, the 54-year-old Member for Solomon since 2016, is also the special envoy for defence, veterans’ affairs and northern Australia. He has previously denied the assault allegations and denied having any altercation with Mr Connolly.
The shadow minister for defence, James Paterson, and the leader of the opposition, Angus Taylor, have called on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to stand Mr Gosling down from his envoy role following the latest charge.
