Former Rockstar Developer Suggests Further GTA 6 Delays Possible

A former Rockstar Games developer has stated he would not be surprised if Grand Theft Auto 6 faces another delay, despite pre-orders going live in June.

  • Grand Theft Auto 6 has already been delayed twice from its original late 2025 launch.
  • Pre-orders for the game began in June, ahead of a planned November 19 release.
  • A former Grand Theft Auto 5 animator indicated Rockstar Games could delay the game again if needed.

A former developer for Rockstar Games has indicated that a further delay for Grand Theft Auto 6 would not be surprising. The game, which was initially expected in late 2025, has already been delayed twice by Rockstar Games.

In June, pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 became available, with a planned release date of November 19. However, some fans are reportedly anticipating another delay due to a perceived lack of gameplay footage. Conversely, other fans expect a new trailer to be released today, August 6, ahead of a Take-Two earnings call scheduled for tomorrow, August 7.

Mike York, a former Grand Theft Auto 5 animator, told Indy100 that he "would not be shocked at all" if GTA 6 was delayed again. He explained that based on his previous experience, Rockstar has the flexibility to push back the release, stating, "They’ll push it six more months if they have to."

Earlier this year, Strauss Zelnick, the head of Take-Two Interactive, the publishers of Grand Theft Auto, discussed the 13-year development period for Grand Theft Auto 6. He noted that the extended timeline is driven by the commitment to deliver the highest possible quality for the intellectual property.
