Glentoran and Crusaders advance in County Antrim Shield

Glentoran secured a 3-1 victory over Linfield, while Crusaders defeated holders Carrick Rangers 5-4 on penalties in the first round of the County Antrim Shield.

Glentoran comfortably defeated Linfield 3-1 at the Oval to progress in the first round of the County Antrim Shield. Jordan Jenkins netted twice within the first six minutes, giving the home side a dream start. Despite Charlie Chapman pulling one back for Linfield in the second half, Cal Weatherup restored Glentoran's two-goal advantage in the closing stages.

Meanwhile, holders Carrick Rangers exited the competition after a penalty shootout defeat to Crusaders. Jacob Blaney and Owen Wardell gave the Crues a comfortable lead, but Carrick Rangers staged a late comeback to force penalties. Crusaders ultimately triumphed 5-4 in the shootout.

Elsewhere, Ballymena United, Cliftonville, Bangor, and Larne also secured victories in their respective matches.
