AI startup Hugging Face is reportedly in talks regarding potential acquisition offers that could value the company at approximately $13 billion or more. Business Insider reported over the weekend that the company has been approached about a sale.

It is not clear who Hugging Face has been in discussions with, and no deal has been reached yet. The startup has reportedly been talking to banks to help evaluate bids.

The company, which provides a platform for developers and researchers to share and deploy AI models, last raised funds in 2023 at a $4.5 billion post-money valuation. Earlier this year, Hugging Face reportedly declined a $500 million investment from Nvidia that would have valued it at $7 billion.

Hugging Face CEO Clem Delangue has previously discussed the company's responsibility to its community, stating, "We’re building a platform for the community, and they’re trusting us with sharing their data and their models on the platform, so we have a long-term responsibility to them."

Why this matters: The reported acquisition talks highlight increased interest in companies providing core AI infrastructure services.
