  • Christian Castro, an ICE agent, was arrested in Minneapolis on Wednesday.
  • He faces state assault charges for allegedly shooting a Venezuelan man through an apartment door.
  • Castro also faces charges of false reporting of a crime, which video evidence reportedly disproved.

A federal immigration officer, Christian Castro, was arrested in Minneapolis on Wednesday, eight months after a confrontation in which he allegedly shot and wounded a Venezuelan man.

Mr Castro, an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent, was taken into custody by agents of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and booked into the Hennepin county jail, according to the agency. He faces state assault charges for allegedly shooting Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis in the leg through the door of his apartment while children were present.

State charges also include false reporting of a crime. Mr Castro reportedly told superiors that Mr Sosa-Celis and others attacked him, a claim which was disproved by video evidence.

Mr Castro had been released on bond earlier this month after an initial appearance in a district court in McAllen, Texas, on charges of lying to investigators about the shooting circumstances. He is expected to make his first state court appearance in Minneapolis on Thursday.
