The family of Nicholas Brandram has denied he was the “Putney pusher” and stated he “took his own life after months of immense pressure caused by a Metropolitan police investigation.” Mr Brandram, 44, was found unresponsive on Tuesday evening inside a property in Chiswick, west London, believed to be his home.
Mr Brandram, a senior city banker, had been arrested in June in connection with an incident nearly 10 years ago on Putney Bridge. During this incident, a jogger reportedly shoved a woman into the path of an oncoming bus. The Metropolitan Police said Mr Brandram had been released under investigation after his arrest.
A statement released on Thursday on behalf of his immediate family claimed there was “no forensic evidence linking Nick to it, no evidence placing him on Putney Bridge at that time, and no credible evidence that he was the man shown in the footage.” The family also stated they had repeatedly asked the police to end their investigation and had warned about its impact on Mr Brandram’s mental health.
