Writer Jimmy McGovern has returned to the prison drama genre with the third series of 'Time', which is set in a young offender institution (YOI). The series explores stories of young men facing bad decisions, rage, and lost potential.

David Tennant joins the cast as Bailey, a veteran prison officer who has become disillusioned with the system after 35 years of service. Siobhan Finneran reprises her role as chaplain Marie-Louise, who is experiencing a crisis of faith while trying to support the young prisoners.

Filming for the series took place in Downpatrick, near Belfast, using a former school as the fictional HMP Alderwick. Additional scenes were shot at the former HMP Belfast (Crumlin Road Gaol) and HMP Hydebank Wood, an active young offender centre.

The series features young actors Louis McCartney as James, Ollie McNulty as Peter, and Chukwubuikem Molokwu as Christopher, portraying some of the teenage prisoners. McGovern suggests this third series may be the last.
