A life-size statue of John Lennon, located on Liverpool's Penny Lane, is expected to be sold at auction for an estimated £70,000 to £100,000. The bronze sculpture, created by the late artist Laura Lian, has been on display outside St Barnabas Church since August 2022.
Omega Auctions is scheduled to offer the statue on 29 September. Following its sale, a replica will take its place on Penny Lane, a location made famous by The Beatles' 1967 song.
The nearly 6ft (1.8m) tall sculpture, known as the John Lennon Peace Statue, shows the musician leaning against a peace symbol inscribed with the word "Imagine". It is cast in bronze with a green patina and mounted on a bronze and steel base.
Dan Muscatelli-Hampson, a director at Omega Auctions, noted the statue's rapid recognition among Beatles fans. The sculpture was installed with the support of the Penny Lane Development Trust and was previously damaged in December 2022 when its bronze glasses were stolen.
