Lithuania's Vilnius and Kaunas now easier to access by train

New rail connections have made travel between Vilnius and Kaunas, and from Riga or Tallinn to Vilnius, more straightforward since 2025.

Travel to and within Lithuania's cities of Vilnius and Kaunas has become more accessible following the standardisation of rail timetables and integrated trains across Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia in 2025.

Passengers can now take a direct train to Vilnius from Riga or Tallinn. Further rail developments are anticipated with the delayed high-speed Rail Baltica project, which is intended to connect the Baltic States and Warsaw.

This project aims to enable train travel from the UK to Vilnius and Kaunas. A bus connection between Kaunas and Vilnius takes just over an hour, with a single ticket costing around £10.
