London has officially submitted its final bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships. The bid, spearheaded by Athletic Ventures – a collaboration of UK Athletics, London Marathon Events, and the Great Run Company – proposes the London Stadium as the main venue.
The London Stadium, originally constructed for the 2012 Olympics, has also hosted the London Diamond League meeting for the past four years. Championship football team West Ham United, who play their home games at the stadium, has offered its support for the bid, with an agreement in place with London Stadium LLP and Athletics Ventures.
A feasibility study conducted before April 2025 suggested the competition could generate a £400m economic benefit. The UK government confirmed its support for the bid in July 2025. The host city for the 2029 World Athletics Championships is expected to be announced in September.
