A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a fatal fire in Hounslow, west London. The Metropolitan Police said officers from Kent Police arrested the man on Sunday as he was travelling to France by train, and he remains in custody.
The Met was called to a residential address on Berkeley Avenue, Hounslow, at approximately 01:15 BST on Wednesday after reports of the blaze. A 48-year-old woman died in hospital, and eight others were injured. A 40-year-old woman is still in hospital in a life-threatening condition.
Det Ch Insp Neil John, leading the investigation, stated that detectives are continuing to build a full picture of the circumstances and are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry. Six men and one woman, who were among the injured, have since been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment for minor injuries.
