A 47-year-old man has been charged with murder after a woman in her 90s was found with stab wounds inside her unit at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Saturday at approximately 5.15pm. Paramedics treated the woman, but she died at the scene.

The man is scheduled to appear before a bail court on Sunday. Police have established a crime scene as detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

This incident follows two other deaths of women in New South Wales on the same day. The body of a woman in her 70s was discovered at Mole River after police responded to reports of a domestic violence incident. Separately, a 23-year-old woman died from critical stab wounds in Wagga Wagga, with an 18-year-old man initially arrested and later released, and a 31-year-old man subsequently arrested.

NSW opposition leader, Kellie Sloane, expressed her dismay, noting that these deaths are not isolated. She cited data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, which indicates that a woman was killed every 11 days in 2024-25 by an intimate partner in Australia.
