Manchester United are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba. The Red Devils had previously attempted to sign the Cameroon international last summer but were deterred by Brighton's valuation, which was then in excess of £100m.
The price for Baleba has since significantly reduced, leading United to revisit their interest after an unsuccessful pursuit of Matheus Fernandes earlier this summer. United's initial offer for Baleba stands at £60m, which is below Brighton's current valuation, though discussions are continuing.
United have already bolstered their midfield this summer, signing Andrey Santos from Chelsea for £48m and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa for £35m in July. However, Mason Mount, who performed well alongside Santos in pre-season, is currently recovering from a foot problem sustained on 8 August.
Baleba himself is currently sidelined with an ankle ligament injury suffered during pre-season and is expected to be out for another two to three weeks. Last season, he made 35 appearances for Brighton as a defensive midfielder, receiving seven yellow cards.
