American rock band My Chemical Romance has surprised fans with the release of their cover of Pulp's iconic 1990s anthem, 'Common People'. This track serves as a further taster for the highly anticipated reissue of their 2010 album, 'Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys', which is scheduled to drop on July 10 via Reprise/Warner Records.
The expanded edition of 'Danger Days' will feature not only reimagined artwork but also a collection of nine bonus tracks. Following the earlier release of 'Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na) (Recorded For BBC Radio 1)', the 'Common People' cover marks the second bonus track to be unveiled. Both recordings, like their predecessor, were originally made for BBC Radio 1 and the 'Common People' cover is accompanied by a new music video.
The choice to cover the Sheffield band's classic track is particularly fitting, given My Chemical Romance's long-standing admiration for Pulp. Frontman Gerard Way has previously spoken about the profound impact 'Common People' had on him and bassist Mikey Way during their formative years in New Jersey. Way recounted listening to the song while working in a supermarket, feeling a strong connection to its themes of longing for escape and its resonance with 'regular people'. The band also regularly performed the cover during their 2011 European tour dates.
'Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys' was a critically acclaimed album for My Chemical Romance, earning them two NME Awards in 2011 for Best International Band and Best Video, alongside three additional nominations. The upcoming reissue aims to celebrate the enduring legacy of the album, offering fans both new and old a deeper dive into its creative process and unreleased material.
In addition to the album reissue, My Chemical Romance is embarking on a significant 2026 'Black Parade Tour', commemorating the 20th anniversary of their seminal album 'The Black Parade'. The tour includes several UK dates, beginning at Liverpool's Anfield Stadium on June 30, followed by stops in Glasgow and London's Wembley Stadium, before moving on to European and North American legs. Fans attending select dates between July 10 and October 31 will also have the opportunity to purchase a special BL/ind tour edition vinyl of 'Danger Days'.
The deluxe edition of 'Danger Days' will be available digitally and in various vinyl formats, providing multiple options for collectors and enthusiasts. The band has also been rumoured to be working on a secret theatre project, hinting at further creative endeavours beyond their musical releases and tour commitments.
