Five new sleeper train services are being introduced across the UK and Europe during 2026. These routes offer connections to various cities and scenic regions, with options ranging from budget seats to private sleeping compartments.
In the UK, select Highland Sleeper services will now include a stop at Birmingham International. This allows passengers to travel overnight to destinations in the Scottish Highlands, such as Inverness, Fort William, and Aberdeen, without needing to go to London Euston. Accommodation options on this service include private Classic, Club, and Caledonian double rooms.
New European routes include the EuroNight Carpatia service, connecting Poland to Germany, Austria, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, with routes splitting to Munich, Prague, or Budapest. A revived sleeper route between Paris and Berlin will run three times a week. Additionally, European Sleeper is launching an overnight service from Amsterdam and Brussels to Milan via Switzerland, which will begin operating between September and December 2026.
For a unique travel experience, Swedish operator Snälltåget is running a one-off Northern Lights Night Train from Malmö to Narvik from 23 to 27 November 2026. This 1,339-mile journey will travel deep into the Arctic Circle, passing through popular viewing locations for the Northern Lights.
ÖBB's Nightjet services are also introducing solo pods, described as 'mini cabins', offering a private sleeping space from €54.90. These pods are available on routes such as Zurich to Vienna, with expansion to Amsterdam planned for December.
