Nottingham Forest have secured the services of striker Liam Delap from Chelsea in a club-record deal valued at £45 million. The 23-year-old forward has committed to a five-year contract at the City Ground.
Delap's move comes after he was informed he was not part of Xabi Alonso’s plans at Chelsea. Newly appointed Forest manager Oliver Glasner made the acquisition of the striker a priority during the current transfer window.
Delap expressed his eagerness to begin, stating, "I spoke to the manager and I like his way, I think he can be the one to really help me develop and make that next step and hopefully I can bring goals here." He added that the main aim for the team is to challenge and become a top club in the Premier League.
Chelsea, who bought Delap for £30 million from Ipswich 12 months ago, have made a profit on the player despite him scoring only twice across all competitions last season. The transfer was completed in time for Delap to potentially make his debut against Liverpool on Saturday.
