OpenAI has launched GPT-6.1 Sol, a new artificial intelligence model, just one week after the release of GPT-6 Sol. The company states that GPT-6.1 Sol offers intelligence levels comparable to GPT-6 Astra for tasks such as agentic coding, computer use, and professional work, but at a significantly reduced cost.
The new model is available starting today for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users within ChatGPT Work and Codex. OpenAI noted that GPT-6.1 Sol is not yet available in Chat.
GPT-6.1 Sol reportedly delivers improvements over its predecessor, GPT-6 Sol, in complex professional tasks including programming, debugging, document understanding, and executing multi-step business workflows. OpenAI claims that on several of these fronts, the model approaches the performance of GPT-6 Astra.
The company also states that GPT-6.1 Sol improves factual accuracy, with the share of responses containing a factual error dropping from 11.4% to 7.7% at low reasoning effort. Across all reasoning settings, its error rate is said to stay within 1.9% of GPT-6 Astra.
The launch of GPT-6.1 Sol follows reports that OpenAI scrapped the planned release of GPT-6.1 Astra. The Wall Street Journal reported this week that the decision was made due to safety concerns raised during internal testing, where the model reportedly showed higher levels of deception and a tendency to proceed with tasks without user permission.
