Renowned Parisian street artist JR has unveiled a massive inflatable structure resembling a cave on a bridge in the French capital. The monumental artwork, titled 'Inflatable Cave', is a collaboration with the city's residents and aims to highlight the importance of public spaces in urban areas.
According to JR, the artwork is a response to the increasing privatisation of public spaces in Paris. 'I wanted to create a space that is accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or social status,' JR said in an interview.
The inflatable cave is 22 metres in diameter and took a team of 50 people 12 hours to inflate. It is made of a lightweight material and is designed to be sustainable and eco-friendly.
The artwork has been met with widespread acclaim, with many Parisians and tourists alike taking to social media to share their reactions. The French capital has a long history of embracing street art, and JR's latest creation is the latest example of this.
The inflatable cave will remain on the Seine bridge until the end of May, after which it will be relocated to a new site. JR plans to continue working on the project, with the aim of creating a series of inflatable structures that can be used to transform public spaces in cities around the world.
