Real Madrid has escalated its involvement in the 'Negreira case' sports corruption investigation by sending a reportedly 50,000-page dossier to Uefa. The European governing body confirmed on 1 October that it received a "substantial" amount of documents related to its ongoing investigation into FC Barcelona.
The case centres on payments totalling €7.3m (£6.5m) made by Barcelona to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, the former vice-president of the Spanish football federation’s technical committee of referees (CTA), between 2001 and 2018. Barcelona states these payments were for scouting and technical reports.
Real Madrid said the new dossier details "evidence of extraordinary gravity, which directly affect the integrity of the competition and confidence in the refereeing system." The club stated it considers it essential that the Uefa investigation progresses quickly and that appropriate decisions are made.
Uefa confirmed that its ethics and disciplinary inspectors have received these latest documents and will assess them as part of their ongoing review. Barcelona responded by asserting that no new disciplinary proceedings have been opened as a result of Real's dossier, and that the club has continued to comply with Uefa's requests since the investigation began in 2023.
