Richard O'Sullivan, the actor who became a household name playing Robin Tripp in the hit 1970s sitcoms Man About The House and Robin's Nest, has died at the age of 82. A statement from the Royal Variety Charity confirmed he died peacefully surrounded by his close family at Brinsworth House, a retirement home for entertainers in Twickenham.
O'Sullivan's career began when he was eight years old, with an appearance in the 1953 drama film The Yellow Balloon. He went on to have a successful career spanning decades, working across film, TV, and theatre.
While widely recognised for his comedic roles, O'Sullivan also took on more serious parts, including the title character in the period adventure series Dick Turpin. He retired from public life after 1996, making occasional TV appearances, and had lived at Brinsworth House since 2003.
