Manchester City midfielder Rodri is reportedly facing a significant decision regarding his future, with his contract entering its final year and interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.

  • Rodri is in the final year of his contract with Manchester City and has not yet signed new terms.
  • Real Madrid have a long-standing interest, and Barcelona have reportedly joined the race for his signature, though Barca sources have distanced themselves from these claims.
  • The 29-year-old, who won the 2024 Ballon d'Or, is currently recovering from back surgery.

Manchester City midfielder Rodri may have a significant decision to make this summer regarding his future. The 29-year-old is in the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium and is yet to agree to new terms.

Real Madrid have shown long-term interest in the player. Two separate sources told BBC Sport on Thursday that Spanish champions Barcelona have also entered the race for his signature, although Barcelona sources have reportedly distanced themselves from such claims.

Rodri, who was named player of the tournament after leading Spain to their second World Cup title this summer and won the 2024 Ballon d'Or, is currently out of action after undergoing back surgery. He is yet to link up with his Manchester City teammates, who are on a pre-season tour in the Far East.

City sources have previously indicated they are "counting on" Rodri for the upcoming season. Any potential sale would reportedly require a significant transfer fee.
