Six individuals have sustained injuries after a sign fell at a Christian festival in West Sussex. Emergency services were called to the Big Church Festival, near Steyning, shortly after 15:30 BST on Friday, following reports of multiple people needing medical attention.
South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed that ambulance crews, critical care paramedics, and specialist response teams are at the scene. Organisers have announced that the event has been "paused" due to a "serious incident" and that no further programming will take place on Friday.
The Big Church Festival, which describes itself as the UK's largest Christian festival, began on Friday and was scheduled to run until Sunday. Organisers advised all day visitors to leave the site immediately and asked campers to return to their campsites to await updates, though campers could also leave if they wished.
Sussex Police, who were called to the site off Washington Road around 15:40, remain at the scene and anticipate traffic disruption in the area, urging the public to find alternative routes.
