Over 4,000 homes and businesses across Teesdale can now access gigabit-capable broadband, following the completion of a Project Gigabit contract. The contract was awarded by Building Digital UK (BDUK) to Borderlink, the parent company of GoFibre.
The build for Teesdale was completed in September 2025. The £6.6 million contract was signed on 22 September 2022, aiming to provide gigabit-capable broadband to over 4,000 premises in the area.
This contract is part of a broader Project Gigabit strategy for the region, with additional local and regional procurements for gigabit-capable infrastructure underway in North Northumberland and North East England. The government also offers up to £210 million in voucher funding to assist people in rural areas experiencing slow broadband speeds.
