SoundCloud is set to introduce direct-to-fan music sales, a change announced on August 26. This new feature will initially be trialled with select US-based Artist Pro creators, with plans to expand to further regions.
The streaming platform has stated it will not take any commission on these purchases, though fees and taxes will still apply. Artists on SoundCloud currently retain 100 per cent of their distribution royalties and can also generate income through vinyl and ticketing services.
CEO Eliah Seton stated that the decision aims to allow artists to build their audience and careers on one platform, enabling fans to directly support the music they enjoy. SoundCloud is joining other platforms, such as Nina Protocol and Bandcamp, in offering direct-to-fan sales.
