Thousands of homes in Tonbridge, Kent, are experiencing water supply disruption following a large pipe burst on Shipbourne Road at 07:15 BST today.
South East Water (SEW) stated that over 2,500 customers in the area had low pressure or no water by 15:00 BST. The company warned that due to the "very complex" nature of the repairs, the pipe is not expected to be fixed "until sometime overnight tonight".
SEW incident manager Robert Anthony-Scorse apologised, stating the repair team is on-site. The company has identified vulnerable customers on its Priority Services Register who will receive bottled water.
Two bottled water stations have been established at Sovereign Way East Car Park and Tonbridge Farm Sports Centre, Darenth Avenue. Both stations will remain open until 22:00 BST.
Earlier, a total of 3,200 properties were affected shortly after the burst. The disruption occurs on a day when Tonbridge is expecting highs of 26C, and Kent is currently in a period of "prolonged dry weather" as designated by the government.
